On February 13, 2021, Lidia Ines Romero Schurke, beloved wife and mother of two, passed away at the age of 41. Lidia was born on September 14, 1979 in Victoria, Chile to Elba Gatica Escobar and Maximo Romero Valenzuela. Visitation will be held on February 20, 2021 from 10am-12pm at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in Kearney, MO. The funeral service will be held on February 20, 2021 12pm following the visitation at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. Lidia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At the age of 21, she served a full-time service mission in the northern regions of her native Chile where she met the love of her life, Jason. Upon faithfully completing their missions, they were married in the Santiago Chile Temple in July of 2004. Jason and Lidia made their first home together in Rexburg, Idaho where she began to study English and adapt to American culture. Lidia quickly made friends and she and Jason welcomed their first son, Maximo Charles in May of 2006. They soon made their way to Kearney, Missouri, which would become their permanent home and where Benjamin Daniel completed their family in June of 2008. Drawn to Zumba by her love of dancing and Latin music, Lidia quickly became everyone’s favorite instructor. Her passion for dancing along with her cheerful character allowed her to make friends and connect to others like no one else could. She particularly loved teaching her more mature students, and many of them loved and treated her like one of their own daughters. These meaningful connections and friendships supported her through times of triumph as well as times of trial. After 14 years of residency in the United States, Lidia readily took the oath to become a citizen. Soon thereafter, illness tried but failed to take her. The love and support she freely gave to all throughout her life was returned to her many times over as she made a miraculous recovery, which allowed her to spend more precious time with her beloved family and dear friends. She continued her example of love and service until the final days of her life. Lidia will be remembered for her unfeigned love, endless service, and contagious enthusiasm for life. Lidia is survived by her husband, Jason Schurke, two sons, Maximo and Benjamin, her parents Elba Gatica Escobar and Maximo Romero Valenzuela, two siblings Angela (Guillermo Hise) Romero, and Simon Romero Gatica as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.
