Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Allen Parker, 76, of Lawson, passed away on Friday February 19, 2021 at Kansas City Hospice, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Lawson, 412 N Raum Street. Memorial Service will be immediately following Visitation with full military honors. Cremation. Richard was born October 9, 1944 in Brookfield, Missouri to Robert and Virginia (née Smith) Parker. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and his sister Judith Ann Brison. He is survived by his wife, Doris Parker; his daughter Angie (Parker) Ritter, his grandsons Jackson and Gavin Ritter, O’Fallon, MO; his brother, Robert "Bobby” Parker and his wife, Gina, Brookfield, MO. Richard was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He served his country in combat in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 1967. He retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer after 38 years of service. He was proudly from a railroading family. He followed the career paths of his Grandfather Orie Joseph Parker, his Dad, Robert A. Parker and his Uncle, Joe Parker. His brother, Bobby also followed their footsteps and retired from the BNSF, Santa Fe Railroad. Richard’s real love was airplanes. He earned his private pilot license at the age of sixteen. Besides his love for airplanes, Western movies and sharing his railroading stories with his friends, his real pride were his two grandsons, Jackson Parker Ritter and Gavin Vincent Ritter. He looked forward to their visits and taking them to Candyman and Dollar General in Lawson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name, Richard A. Parker, to The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or by mail to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758512, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8512.
