Frank Winsky passed away at his home, surrounded by family on April 21, 2021. He fought a battle with ALS and Frank was determined to do it his own way, just as he lived his life. The love he had for his family, especially when it came to his wife, Barbie, was always on display. Anyone who knew him could see the pride he took in being his own man and protecting the people he loved. Frank was born August 8, 1946 to Frank Sr. and Wilma Winsky. He was a protective big brother to his younger siblings, Terry, Jo, and Sharon. Frank grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and went to Junction Elementary. Even at a young age, Frank was tough. To ensure he could defend his younger siblings and himself, he took up boxing at the Argentine Parish House he boxed in Golden Gloves. He attended Turner high School where he played trumpet in the band, did some fighting, and graduated in 1964. After high school, Frank went to Finley Engineering College for a year, then started working at Hallmark. At age 19, Frank began his career as a meat cutter. He started with Kroger and finished his successful 53 year career with Balls Price Chopper. He finally retired in 2015 as Head Meat Manager, though they kept trying to get him to go back to teach others how it’s done. When he wasn’t working, Frank spent time with his family, he trained bird dogs and cattle dogs, and he loved racing pigeons. He and Barbie took camping trips to go horseback riding whenever possible. Frank leaves a legacy of valuing family and hard work above all else. If you were going to battle, Frank is always the one you wanted on your side, and he was always there. Frank is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbie (Northington) Winsky; his mother, Wilma Winsky; his children, Stacy Richter and son-in-law Troy, Roger Taylor and daughter-in-law Jennifer, Derek Taylor, Chad Taylor and daughter-in-law Stephanie, Amanda Brewer and son-in-law Corry; grandchildren Jackson and Clayton Taylor, Aubrey Taylor, Dylan Brewer, Jason Parker, Jennifer, Chase, and Carly Moyer, Keely and Grant Richter; sister, Jo and her husband Eddie Cronin; brother, Terry and his wife Willa Winsky; sister, Sharon Adams; brother-in-law Pete Simone; and many loving nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Winsky Sr.; his daughter, Teresa Parker; sister-in-law, Caroline and her husband Phil Tyler; sister-in-law Marlene and her husband Sam Cessor; sister-in-law Karla Simone; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Marian (Brenner) Northington. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Kearney, 925 E. State Route 92, Kearney, MO 64060. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Church of the Annunciation, 701 N. Jefferson Street, Kearney, MO 64060 followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North.
