Obituary of Elizabeth S. Gum

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In all thine ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:6 Elizabeth Spence Schipfer Gum was born on August 25, 1945 to Daniel Carl and Mary Elizabeth (Spence) Schipfer in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Elizabeth (known as “Liz” to her many friends) dearly loved God and her family. A strong and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Liz often remarked to her children how she looked forward to meeting Jesus someday, and she was very excited about what a wonderful place Heaven will be. Every morning, she would spend the first hour or more of her day drinking coffee and studying her Bible. When her children were young, she would read the Bible to them every night, and passed on her love of the Word and of Jesus to them; this faith is a gift they all cherish. Despite the many trials and tribulations Elizabeth faced in her human lifetime, she was a very happy, positive, kind and upbeat person. Liz was very well-known by all as a great listener and friend. She was very kind and always put other's needs ahead of her own. Her grace left an impression on everyone she met. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and two beloved brothers-in-law. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Gum of Kearney, Missouri, three daughters: Amy (David) Whitener of Kearney, Robin (Steve) Foster of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jennifer (Tony) Perkins of Post Falls, Idaho. Five grandchildren: Andrew (Kathleen) Whitener, Zachary Foster, Timothy Whitener, Sophie Foster, Reid Perkins, and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Will Whitener. Elizabeth is also survived by her beloved siblings, Daniel (Marty) Schipfer, Jr. and Jane (Roger) Hayes, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews, who loved their Aunt Liz dearly. She was the beloved rock of her family and she will most definitely be missed. Elizabeth’s family looks forward to reuniting with her again in Heaven someday.
