Ray Eugene Knappenberger, 68, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri passed away on June 27, 2021 at 12:20AM at Liberty Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July, 6, 2021 at the Radiant Life Church in Kearney, Missouri beginning at 7:00PM. Mr. Knappenberger was born on July 25, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harry Ray Knappenberger and Irene Elizabeth (Schildknect) Knappenberger. His Dad was overseas in the Korean War during the time of Ray’s birth. Ray graduated from Oak Park High School in 1971 and worked at Safe-T-Flare for many years before becoming an owner operator & driving an 18 wheeler over the road with his father and his brother Randy. In 1990 Ray went back to work for Safe-T-Flare and married Lisa Elaine Prewitt on April 14, 1990. He finished his career back at work as a sign manufacturer for Work Zone before taking medical retirement in 2013. Together Ray and Lisa had one son, Stephen Ray. Ray joined the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Leader in 1997 and was a Scout Master of Troop #1313 (Excelsior Springs). He was inducted into the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at HR Bartle in 2004 as an Honorary Warrior. He served 16 years years in leadership capacity for the Boy Scouts of America. Ray also enjoyed fishing, camping and motorcycle riding along side his wife. Ray was a support member of Vulcan Riders Chapter 1-44 and had also been a support member for ShowMe Riders chapter of Women on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Ray Knappenberger and his grand parents Raymond and Nina Knappenberger. Survivors include his wife Lisa Knappenberger of the home, mother Irene Knappenberger of Lawson, MO, daughter Nerissa (Ron) Stawicki of Liberty, MO, daughter Candace (Shane) Bleyenberg of Kansas City, MO, son Stephen (Erica) Knappenberger of Lawson, MO, step-daughter Kristie Pennington of Yorktrown, VA, two step-sons (by previous marriage) Gene Swafford of Jefferson City, MO and John Swafford of Kansas City, MO, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandsons, brother Randy (Linda) of Lawson, MO and several nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews. Donations may also be made to Radiant Life Church, Kearney, MO.
