Obituary of Russell Everett Lowrey

Russell (Rusty) Everett Lowrey was born on August 2, 1925 to Everett & Harriett (Newton) Lowrey. He died on October 2, 2021 at the North Kansas City Hospital Hospice House at the age of 96 after suffering a stroke a week earlier. Rusty grew up in the farming community of Dawn, Missouri. After graduating from Dawn High School in 1943, Rusty enlisted in the Army Air Corps. During his three years of service during World War II, he spent time in Japan and the Philippines as a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator and a gunnery instructor. On September 16, 1950, Rusty married Ruth (Craig) Lowrey. They were married for 44 years and have one son, Curt, who was born in 1963. They lived in Kansas City where Rusty worked for more 35 years as an accounting analyst for TWA. Following Ruth’s death in 1995, Rusty married Juanita (Skeet) Tudor DeFord in 1996. They resided in Gladstone, MO before moving to Kearney, MO in 2011. Rusty was proceeded in death by his parents Everett & Harriett, first wife Ruth, second wife Skeet, five sisters - Ethel Evans, Mildred Johnson, Olive Snider, Gladys Stark and Joanne Roberts, and three brothers - Albert Lowrey, Oren Lowrey and Dale Lowrey. He is survived by his son Curt (Kate) Lowrey, his grandchildren Jackson and Payton, sisters Frankie Braden and Peggy Jones, sister-in-law Helen Lowrey, brother-in-law Sonny Roberts, step-children Carolyn Solomon, David DeFord, and Margaret Yansura, step-grandchildren Brian, Michael, Sarah, Lisa, and Grant, step-great-granddaughter Cora, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne, MO on Saturday, November 20th at 11:00am followed by a gathering with details to be determined at a later date.
