Obituary of Carol Jean Nye

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Jean Nye, of Kansas City, was a caring mother, grandmother, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on October 29, 2021, at the age of 68. Services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Liberty; Visitation: 4:30 – 6pm. Memorial Service: 6:00pm. Carol was born to William and Marcia (Miller) Campbell on January 23, 1953. As a young child, she lived in Fort Riley, Kansas where she developed a fondness for the bison on the prairie. Over the years, she continued her deep love of animals. She enjoyed visits to the Kansas City Zoo, watching animal shows on TV and especially caring for her pets. The pets she and her children cared for were always a beloved part of her family. Carol had a talent for all things handmade. Skills she learned from her mother and grandmother, she passed on to her children. As a mother, she led crafts for Girl Scouts, she sewed matching Easter dresses for her daughters, and she was a master Halloween costume designer. Carol continued her interest in art by earning an Associate of Fine Arts degree. A skilled artist, she enjoyed painting, drawing, jewelry making, sewing and crochet. Carol was a proud mother who was a PTA volunteer, Girl Scout leader, dance mom, softball and swim team fan, and a choir and band enthusiast. She had an ear for music. She loved to hear live music - especially a good blues show. Carol also enjoyed geology, weather and astronomy. She was always the first to call her children if a storm was rolling in or to let her grandchildren know if there was an awesome event happening in the night sky. Carol was a genuinely caring mother and grandmother who adored her grandchildren. She was so proud of them. The gifts she handmade with care and the stories she shared are a testimony to the love and pride she had for her friends and family. Survivors include her three daughters, Michelle (Gregg) Garcia, of Columbia, MO; Jennifer (Rhett) Johnson, of Kansas City, MO; and Andrèa Craig, of Liberty, MO; three grandchildren; and the friends she loved dearly. Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
