Obituary of Phyllis Darlene O'Connell

Phyllis O’Connell, 82, of Rayville, MO, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2021. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM with the funeral service at 2:00 PM Monday, November 15, 2021, at St. Ann Parish; 1503 Tracy, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024 Please join us for refreshments in the church basement after returning from the gravesite. Phyl was born July 1, 1939, in Excelsior Springs, MO. She was a loving and intelligent Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was married to the love of her life, Dennis O’Connell, for 55 years, raising four children together. She taught CCD classes at St. Ann parochial school, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Parish Council. She was also a Marriage Encounter team leader. Early in her career she was a member of the Ladies Garment Union when working for the Linda Lane Garment Factory. For many years, she was an Avon representative, then worked at Children's World clothing store. She learned to sew at a young age and became a proficient seamstress making clothes for the kids and Niecie's beautiful wedding dress hand sewn with hundreds of sequins and beads. She was a talented artist, painting flowers, people and scenery for over 20 years. Her green thumb could grow anything, nurturing beautiful plants, flowers and a robust garden for years. She was an avid reader and read everything from love and mystery novels to educational books; she was always learning something new. She “may” have partaken in a Kool Mild cigarette or two before and during the 21 ½ years Denny and Phyl owned GoodTimes making many wonderful memories with family and friends and continued enjoying those friendships after retirement. She was preceded in death by: Henry Hariam Alexander (Father), Elva Faye Alexander (Mother) and Gerald Alexander (Brother) Survivors include: Dennis O’Connell (Husband), Dalena Bowles (Daughter), Kelvin O’Connell (Son), Denise (Brad) Church (Daughter) and Michelle Cleem (Daughter). Siblings: Wanda (David) Hill, Henry Wayne Alexander, Karen Kay Glunt and Sharon Kincaid, and Special Family Friend, Debbie Asher. Grandchildren: Adrienne Spor, Zachary (Joanna) Findley, Seth O'Connell, Jacob O'Connell and Savannah Church. Great grandchildren: Mason Spor, Branden Spor, Dylan Spor, Cameron Devlin, Madison Findley and Charlotte Findley. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting you consider supporting the “Mother Teresa School in the Diocese of Cuddapah” school in India.
