Please share a memory of Sara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sara Jo Faulkner, 87 years, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospice House. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Holt, 95 Maple St., Holt, Missouri. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at First Baptist Church of Holt. Interment will be directly after the funeral service at Antioch Cemetery in Holt. She was born on Sunday, September 30, 1934, in Haynesville, Missouri, and is the daughter of the late Joseph and Pearl (Neal) Walters of Holt. She married David Lee Faulkner on Dec. 23, 1951, at First Baptist Church of Holt. She developed a love for baseball listening to the games on the radio at the knee of her father. Baseball became a lifelong connection to family. In her last weeks, she still wanted to know if her beloved Kansas City Royals won or lost. Trained as a secretary, she could type 90 words a minute on a manual typewriter. As a homemaker, Sara Jo spent decades supporting her husband’s ministerial work and their church families. She served as Vacation Bible School Director, Women’s Missionary Union leader, Sunday School teacher, prepared church newsletters and sang in the choir. She also worked for years as secretary for the Concord Associational Missionary in California, Missouri. In addition to raising their three children, she spent years caring for her mother until her death. Sara Jo noticed the details about people. She looked after others comfort and well-being. She kept track of the favorite foods of her children, grandchildren and their spouses, so those foods would be on the table when they were visiting. Her children remember times of crisis or need that she drove hours to help do laundry, took care of them after surgeries, even as adults, and cared for other grandchildren at the birth of a new one. Sara Jo is survived by her husband, David Lee Faulkner, three children: Michael (Toni) Faulkner, Denise (Philip) Anderson, Cynthia Jo Faulkner, nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her two siblings: Ralph Walters and Lola Gabbert. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider donating to the St. Luke’s Hospice House of Kansas City.
