Obituary of David James Jones

David James Jones (Yogi) died unexpectedly in his home on Friday, January 10, 2020, in Independence, Missouri at the age of sixty. Yogi is survived by his parents David Jones and step-mother Shirley of Kirbyville, Missouri; mother Wanda Sims of Independence, Missouri; son Charles (Charlie) Jones and wife Christine and children of Independence, Missouri; daughter Danielle Neff and husband Mike and children of Independence, Missouri; former wife Jennifer Jones of Independence, Missouri; sister Lisa Terry and husband Mark of Galveston, Texas; brother Mitchell Jones and wife Rene of Urich, Missouri; brother Matthew Jones and wife Laura of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren Cassie, Luke, Tyler, Wyatt, Grace, James, Alexandra, and Breanna. He is preceded in death by grandparents Dan and Margaret Jones; Jess and Effie Phillips; and Charles and Blanche Davis. Yogi was born on June 24, 1959, in Richmond, Missouri to David and Wanda Jones. He attended grade school and high school in Richmond, Missouri. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Marine Corp for approximately three years and then served in the National Guard for four years. He graduated from Fort Scott Community College in 1992 with an Associate Degree in Water Technology. After moving to La Cygne, Kansas he began working for Water District One as a tapper. He was married to Jennifer (Yoakum) Jones from 1977 - 2017 with whom he welcomed two children, Charlie and Danielle. Yogi was accomplished at scroll saw artwork and often created beautiful and intricate wall hangings, shelves, jewelry boxes, and clocks of exceptional detail. Yogi enjoyed attending church at Sheffield Family Life Center, fishing, listening to music, and visiting with family. Funeral services will be held at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Richmond at 9502 Leathers Road, Richmond, Missouri. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, January 17, 2020, and a reception to follow at Eagleton Civic Center 1015 West Royle Street, Richmond, Missouri. Pastor Randy Burns of Sheffield Family Life Center will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and commemorate Yogi’s life. Yogi will be laid to rest at the Woodland Cemetery on Wilson Boulevard, Richmond, MIssouri.
