Maurice Gayle Smith of Richmond, Mo, passed away at Liberty Hospital on Nov. 2. He was born July 7, 1938 in Camden Missouri to the late Charles Smith and late Ina (Hedrick) Smith. Maurice married Shirley Peters on Feb 6, 1965. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, one son David of Richmond and one daughter Janette (Doug) Sedgwick of Springfield Missouri, Mother-in-Law Mary Peters, 98, of Polo, MO. Other survivors include two grandsons; Dylan (Bailey) Smith of Richmond and Christian Sedgwick of Springfield Mo. and one granddaughter, Katelyn Sedgwick of Springfield Mo, and one great granddaughter, Emma Smith, along with many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Dorris Smith. Maurice graduated from Richmond High School in the class of 1956. He attended college at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, Mo. He served in the US Army and National Guard. When he was in the army he was a medical specialist and sharpshooter rifle, infantry division. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo in 1992 after 30 years with the company. Maurice liked being with family and friends and always looked forward to class reunions. He liked attending gospel concert’s of different groups in the area. He was a charter member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond and also enjoyed being part of the music there. A private family service will be held at a future date. All memorial donations may be made to either; Mt.
