Good-bye, Little Brother. It will be a while before the finality of that phrase sinks in. You predicted nobody would miss you, but that was never true. Your granddaughters adore you, and always will. Your children will think about you from now on. Among your brothers one of their company is forever absent. You have nieces and nephews who never spent enough time with you, never heard enough of your stories and never said enough to you.
Of all the people on earth no one knew me like you did. We went from bitter enemies to best of friends. It would take volumes to relate the adventures we shared (most of our adventures should remain untold anyway). We waited together in suspense for the statute of limitations to expire.
For some reason you always treated me with respect, though we agreed on very little. We managed to argue without anger. We found a way to forgive each other rather than seek vengeance (usually). We never endured years of silence over some petty grievance. We looked forward to the next fishing trip instead of back toward some perceived offense. We helped each other out.
I will never forget the things you did for me. You extracted me from some dire situations at the railroad when you clerked under my supervision. You squirmed around in the dirty confines of a crawl space when I had back surgery and couldn't do it myself. You helped me fix my car when I didn't know what was wrong. You were best man at my wedding (a book could be written!). You were so many things to me, and I never told you.
You didn't stay silent when I made a poor decision. You shared your point of view emphatically and you were usually right. A few examples:
"Tim, I'm buying a house."
"You dumb ass."
"Tim, I'm buying a car."
"You dumb ass."
"Tim, I'm buying some rental property."
"You dumb ass."
"Tim, I'm putting up Christmas lights."
"You dumb ass."
Your wisdom will be sorely missed. Your laughter will echo in my ears. Every day I will think "I need to check on Tim." Sometimes I will remember some viciousness I afflicted on you and thank you anew for your forgiveness. At family gatherings your face will be among the ones my mind's eye locks on. From now on there will be hope upon hope that I see you again. After all, we shared maladies. I won't be far behind.
Life would be more bearable if I could hear you say one more time "Love you, man."
Good-bye, Little Brother. Love you, man.

My grandpa was always down to fish. One time he asked me to go into the lake and get his hook unstuck his hook and I fell into the lake
