Walter J. Thompson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12, 2022. He was born August 6, 1947 at Excelsior Springs Hospital to George and Frances Thompson who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Janet Thompson, son Walter Thompson and his wife Carissa and son Flynn, sister Carol (Bob) Calder, nephew Ryan (Lori) Calder and family, niece Courtney (Carl) Chesser and family, and many loving cousins. Walt started working at a very young age having his own hay baling crew, training horses, involved in many other farm duties. He was an active 4-H member, one of his favorite memories of that was the trip to Washington DC. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1965, and went on to attend Central Missouri State College, now UCM, in Warrensburg, MO. He was also in the Missouri Army National Guard. He had many jobs over the years, everything from meter reader to corporate to business owner. He was known to work two jobs at the same time. He ran his company, Adventure Carpet for many years, and in 2011 started his "retirement career" as a truck driver which took him many places across the country. Even though he worked many long hours, he was always there for family and friends. He loved gardening, known as "the tomato man" to many, greatly enjoyed fishing, especially spoonbill snagging, was an outstanding marksman, was fascinated by Bald Eagles, enthralled by magicians, loved to read, thoroughly enjoyed country music, especially Hank Williams Senior but also many others, old school and new. He was stubborn, tenacious and fought to the very end to stay with us, a true Missouri Mule. Walt was a true Christian, loving people, animals and life. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, a cause he was very passionate about. Walt always signed his cards and FB posts "enjoy the moments", we should all keep this sentiment close.
